Truly one of the most transformative stories to be told through Out for the Run. A.J. Stachelek came to Front Runners in 2010 as a “strong butch lesbian” non-runner and is now a straight man, a husband, a runner, a triathlete, and now a dad.

Front Runner, or front-runner in the dictionary is a standard term. Usually used to described someone leading a race, political or in sports, but it also refers to an athlete or horse that runs best when in the front of the field. But to us – it means something else…

Hear from these everyday individuals have to say about it means to call themselves “Front Runners” – and then let us know in the comments what it means to YOU to be a Front Runner.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes over the weekend. February has always been a festive month. There’s lot to celebrate this month. Did you know that February is LGBT history month in the United Kingdom? It coincides with the 2005 abolition of “Section 28.” Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988 prohibited local authorities in England and Wales from “promoting” homosexuality. It also labelled gay family relationships as “pretend”. (Does this sound familiar?)

Sir Ian McKellen said: “If Section 28 and the attitudes behind it had remained then society would still believe that gay people are second class citizens and that it is right that they should be treated as second class citizens.”

It took the United Kingdom 17 years to come to terms that we’re not second class citizens. How long do you think it will take Russia to come to the same conclusion?

Dave Lin, president of Front Runners New York, wasn’t always athletic or as confident as he is today – he also use to smoke. He joined Front Runners in 2006 to get in shape – and little did he know back then that Front Runners would become such an important part of his life today.

On President’s Day, we celebrate leadership – past, present and future. Today we celebrate love – a major theme in my documentary “Out for the Run.”

Many runners come to Front Runners to meet other like-minded individuals – as an alternative to the bars, online and mobile dating apps. Megan met Blossom at Front Runners, it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight, but I had the privilege to watch their love for each other blossom when I was working with them on the membership committee when we revamped the renewing and joining process. Watch the video to learn more about how they met. Megan and Blossom didn’t meet because they were running at the same pace at the fun runs, but today, we sometimes see them racing together…

Thank you for visiting our website. Making a film, especially of this magnitude takes a small village – at least 1000 backers. We’re looking to raise $60,000 in 39 days – that’s almost $1,500 a day. Over the next month, we’ll be sharing more content to frame the project, and our initial thoughts on locations and hopefully give you a reason to (1) fund the project – and (2) share your network – invite your friends and family to fund the project with you. Whether you’re a Front Runner or not, gay or straight – there’s something for you in the film.

If you haven’t fund a project before through Kickstarter, it’s easy and it’s a lot of fun! You can easily sign up by linking your Facebook account – and payment is processed through Amazon.
